Polish Teams Set to Shine at Chess Olympiad in Budapest

Polish chess teams are favorites for medals in the upcoming Olympiad in Budapest.

The Chess Olympiad in Budapest is set to feature a record 193 teams in the open tournament and 181 in the women’s event. The Polish teams, spearheaded by Alina Kaszlinska and Jan-Krzysztof Duda, are among the favorites for medals.

    Past Performance and Expectations

In 2022, Poland’s women narrowly missed a podium finish, coming sixth. With the absence of strong teams from Russia and Belarus, the competition landscape has shifted. The top contenders in the women’s tournament include India, Georgia, Poland, China, and Ukraine, with Poland ranked third for the first time.

    Current Team Lineup

The current Polish women’s lineup boasts six top-ranked players, including naturalized citizens Kaszlinska and Malcewska. Duda leads the men’s team, which includes experienced players like Radosław Wojtaszek and Kacper Piorun. Both teams aim to capitalize on their strengths and teamwork from September 11 to 22.
