Strengthening NATO – Finland becomes the 31st member

The Finnish president’s office said that Finland has officially become a member of NATO today. Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg welcomed Finland’s imminent accession: “It will be a good day for Finland’s security, for Nordic security, and for NATO as a whole.”

Last year, Poland consents to the accession of Sweden and Finland to NATO. President Andrzej Duda said then:

“NATO is strengthened by the accession of strong countries. I hope that cooperation with these countries will motivate us to strengthen our security potential.”

Today, he welcomes Finland, a new Ally.
