    Terlecki criticizes the European Commission

The European Commission does not have the right to interfere in our judiciary system, the head of the PiS (Law and Justice party) parliamentary club, deputy speaker of the Sejm, Ryszard Terlecki said referring to the EC’s position on the Disciplinary Chamber of the Supreme Court in Poland.

The European Commission has initiated an “additional” procedure against Poland for violating EU law in the matter of the Disciplinary Chamber of the Supreme Court. It stated that “Poland is violating EU law by allowing the Disciplinary Chamber of the Supreme Court – whose independence and impartiality is not guaranteed – to continue making decisions in cases that directly affect judges”.

The head of the PiS club was asked about this issue by journalists in the Sejm. “The European Commission does not have a special right to interfere in our judicial system,” Terlecki assessed.

“The Commission decided today to send an additional letter of formal notice to Poland in connection with the continued operation of the Disciplinary Chamber of the Supreme Court,” EC reported in a press release.
