A great match for Robert Lewandowski

Bayern Munich secured their advance to the 1/8 finals of the Champions League by beating Benfica Lisbon 5:2. Robert Lewandowski, playing his 100th game in the Champions League, celebrated the jubilee with a hat-trick and an assist.

First, Kingsley Coman twisted the defenders of the team from Lisbon and brilliantly passed, and Robert Lewandowski celebrated his 100th appearance in the Champions League by scoring his 79th goal in this prestigious competition. Only Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi are more successful than the Pole in the Champions League.

Lewandowski did not stop at the goal, because a few minutes later he perfectly laid the ball to Serge Gnabry, who with his heel defeated Odysseas Vlachodimos, scoring an excellent goal between the posts.

Sane increased the hosts’ lead early in the second half with a beautiful strike into the long corner. After an hour of play, Benfica was dealt a second goal by Lewandowski. The Portuguese reduced their losses thanks to Darwin Nunez, but it didn’t matter much anymore. Lewandowski once again scored a goal and completed a hat-trick.

The goal-counter indicated the Pole’s eighth goal in this edition of the Champions League at that moment and 81st in history. Interestingly, both Ronaldo (64) and Messi (77) playing their 100th games in the competition had fewer goals than Lewandowski.
