    Shopee ends Poland operations: one fast-fashion platform less

    Shopee Poland informed on its website that it ended its operations in Poland on Friday, January 13, 2023. The platform became popular in Poland in 2021.

    According to strefabiznesu.pl, Poland was to be a first step to enter new markets, especially in Western Europe.

    As stated by mobirank.pl, Shopee launched in Southeast Asia and Taiwan in February 2015. Since then, it has become the largest platform in the region, with 343 million visits per month. Shopee belongs to the Singaporean company Sea Ltd, which also operates in the gaming industry. Shopee services are available in several countries, including Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, Brazil, Mexico, Colombia, Chile, the Philippines and Taiwan.

    It is an example of fast-fashion platform, similar to AliExpress, an online retail service based in China and owned by the Alibaba Group.

    Fast-fashion

    Fast-fashion describes the clothing industry’s business model of replicating recent catwalk trends and high-fashion designs, mass-producing them at a low cost, and bringing them to retail stores quickly, while demand is at its highest.

    The term fast fashion is also used generically to describe the products of the fast fashion business model. The global fashion industry is responsible for ~8–10% of global carbon emissions per year, to which fast fashion is a large contributor.
