The Belvedere Palace to open its doors for visitors during the Night of Museums

The Belvedere Palace, one of the most significant landmarks of Warsaw, is set to open its doors for visitors during this year’s Night of Museums on Saturday, May 13th, from 5 pm to midnight. The event will provide visitors with an opportunity to explore the palace’s impressive ceremonial halls, including the Marble, Mirror, and Pompeian halls, as well as the reconstructed Marshal Józef Piłsudski’s Cabinet, which features an aide-de-camp’s room, a lounge, an office, and a chess room.

This year’s Night of Museums will also feature an exhibition called “The Samaritans of Markowa” in the Belvedere Palace courtyard. The exhibition tells the story of the Ulm family, who were Polish Catholics killed by the Nazis during World War II for helping Jews. The entire Ulm family, including an unborn child, will be beatified in September 2023. The exhibition is one of the events organized by the Committee of the President of the Republic of Poland for the Celebrations accompanying the Beatification of the Ulm Family.

The Night of Museums is an annual event that takes place in numerous cities worldwide, aimed at promoting museums and cultural institutions and encouraging people to explore their local cultural heritage. In Warsaw, the event has been held for over a decade and attracts thousands of visitors each year. The Belvedere Palace is just one of many museums and cultural institutions that will be open during the Night of Museums in Warsaw.

    “The Good Samaritans of Markowa”

Minister Grażyna Ignaczak-Bandych, Head of the Chancellery of the President of the Republic of Poland, spoke about the exhibition “The Good Samaritans of Markowa”:

“The events accompanying the beatification have e.g. educational character to remind the situation of Polish citizens of Jewish descent in Poland, as well as what was the real attitude of Poles at that time. We want to remind Poland and the world of this.”
