The Polish Air Operations Center has reported the presence of an object in Polish airspace, coming from the direction of Belarus. The Ministry of Defense announced on Saturday that the object is likely an observation balloon. Radar contact was lost in the vicinity of Rypin.
The Ministry of Defense took to Twitter to release the information, stating, “The Air Operations Center has detected the appearance of an object in Polish airspace, coming from the direction of Belarus. According to the COP, it is likely an observation balloon. Radar contact was lost in the vicinity of Rypin.”
In response, the Operational Commander has activated the standby forces of the Territorial Defense Forces to search for the object.
This incident comes amid rising tensions between Poland and Belarus, with Poland accusing Belarus of violating its airspace. The Polish government has also accused Belarus of orchestrating a recent surge in illegal migration across the border.
