Poland Summons Belarusian Embassy Official over Violation of Airspace

In response to a concerning incident on August 1, 2023, Poland’s Foreign Ministry (MFA) has taken action by summoning the charge d’affaires of the Belarusian Embassy. The summons came after two Belarusian helicopters were reported to have violated Polish airspace over the Białowieża area near the Polish-Belarusian border, as reported by private radio broadcaster RMF FM.

In an official statement issued on Tuesday evening, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Poland expressed its strong protest and demanded an immediate and detailed explanation from the Belarusian side regarding the airspace violation. The incident was firmly condemned by the Polish authorities, who perceive it as a potential factor contributing to the escalation of tensions on the Polish-Belarusian border.

Emphasizing the seriousness of the situation, the Polish side called on Belarus to refrain from engaging in such activities that could further exacerbate the existing tension between the two countries. The MFA’s decisive response highlights the significance of respecting international airspace boundaries and maintaining open channels of communication between neighboring nations.
