Justyna Święty-Ersetic with the silver medal of the European Championships

Justyna Święty-Ersetic won the silver medal at the European Championships in a 400 m run. Her time of 51.41 is only seven hundredths worse than the Polish record. The winner was Dutchwoman Femke Bol – 50.63. The bronze was won by Britain’s Jodie Williams – 51.73.

It was not an easy run for Święty-Ersetic. Her rivals closed her down, she had to overtake after the second circuit and so she covered almost the whole distance.

‘It’s true. All the girls started very strong; I was counting on there being pushovers. I wanted to fight as hard as I could. It’s a fantastic result,’ commented the Pole.

It was her third European Indoor Championships final and the second medal of her career in individual running. She was sixth in Glasgow two years ago and won bronze in Belgrade in 2017.

In Toruń she still has to compete in the relay.

This is the third medal for the Polish team. Marcin Lewandowski also won silver in the 1500 m run and Michał Haratyk in the shot put. The competition ends on Sunday.
