During a press conference, President Andrzej Duda addressed the ongoing situation within the Supreme Court’s Labor and Social Insurance Chamber. He asserted that all actions taken by himself and the First President of the Supreme Court, Małgorzata Manowska, are in full compliance with the law.
Leadership Controversy
The term of the previous chamber president, Piotr Prusinowski, ended on September 2nd. However, candidates for his replacement have yet to be selected. According to a law introduced during the ruling PiS party’s tenure, if the selection process is delayed, the president has the authority to appoint an acting head, who must organize the election process.
Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced plans to report a potential crime by Manowska, while she responded that following the law should not be criminalized. Justice Minister Adam Bodnar also expressed concern, questioning Manowska’s legal authority in this matter.
