Poland spends PLN 2.5 billion annually to secure its Belarus border amid hybrid warfare and migrant exploitation.
Poland’s efforts to secure its border with Belarus have reached significant financial heights, costing the country approximately 2.5 billion złotys annually. The hybrid warfare situation, exacerbated by migrant exploitation orchestrated by Belarus and Russia, has required a consistent rotation of around 8,000 soldiers and police officers.
Key Factors Driving Expenses
The expenses include the construction of a border wall, round-the-clock patrols by various security forces, equipment procurement, and the maintenance of several migrant detention centers. Each of these factors contributes to the growing cost of maintaining security at the Polish-Belarusian border. According to a recent report, Prime Minister Donald Tusk informed EU leaders that the overall cost to Poland is around 600 million euros annually.
