Law and Justice (PiS) party leader, Jarosław Kaczyński, has issued a strong call to “restore the rule of law” amid claims that democratic principles are under attack. Speaking at a recent press conference, Kaczyński criticized actions he believes undermine opposition parties’ ability to compete fairly in the political arena, calling this “a strike against the foundation of democracy.”
Funding Dispute
At the heart of the issue is a funding dispute. According to Kaczyński, a statutory quarterly subsidy due to PiS has not been disbursed, despite no lawful grounds to withhold it. Citing Article 29, Section 2 of the Political Parties Act, which mandates quarterly payments to eligible parties, he argued that this breach undermines the rule of law. Kaczyński expressed concern that such decisions are aimed at weakening the primary opposition party.
Kaczyński emphasized the need to defend Polish democracy by appealing to citizens who value democratic freedoms and oppose authoritarianism. He called on all pro-democracy citizens to support this cause, asserting that restoring the rule of law is essential for a fair political system.
