Reduced EU Funding for Poland in the 2028-2034 Budget

Poland is set to receive less funding from the European Union in the upcoming 2028-2034 budget period compared to 2021-2027. Polish MEP Bogdan Rzońca expressed concerns over the reduced financial support, highlighting the potential impact on key sectors such as agriculture and border security.

    Concerns Over Financial Support

During a hearing on Thursday, Poland’s nominee for EU budget commissioner, Piotr Serafin, faced intense questioning from the European Parliament’s budget committees. Rzońca, who is a member of the budget committee, noted that the discussions covered essential topics, including the EU’s financial framework, new sources of revenue, EU debt, and border security.

Rzońca expressed worry over the possibility of linking EU reforms to financial aid, which could reduce funds for farmers and other sectors if they don’t align with certain EU political expectations. He argued that sectors like agriculture and security should remain financially protected, regardless of political views within the EU.

Proposal for an EU Reserve Fund

An interesting proposal from Serafin’s presentation was a reserve fund within the EU budget to respond to unforeseen events, such as natural disasters. This reserve fund could add flexibility and ensure a stable response to crises, though details remain under discussion.
