Karol Nawrocki Defends Free Speech and Stands Firm Against Censorship

The Tuchol Cultural Center was filled as Karol Nawrocki addressed an eager audience, passionately defending freedom and highlighting modern threats to liberty. The gathering served as a reminder of the enduring significance of freedom in Poland’s history and future.

    Freedom: A Core Polish Value

“Freedom is sacred to us Poles,” Nawrocki declared. “It is a legacy for which generations of Poles have shed their blood, laboured tirelessly, and made immeasurable sacrifices. The red on our national flag stands as a testament to that sacrifice.”

This sentiment resonated deeply with the audience, serving as a powerful reminder of Poland’s historical struggles. Nawrocki tied the fight for freedom to the legacy of the Solidarity movement, emphasizing that the liberties secured were vital not only for individual rights but for the preservation of Poland’s national identity and collective spirit.

    The Threat of Censorship

Turning to present-day challenges, Nawrocki voiced concerns about growing censorship. He cited attempts to silence independent media, including Telewizja Republika, and efforts to stifle expressions of patriotism in public spaces, such as slogans displayed on stadiums.

“Today, we face attempts to take away our freedom – whether it’s through restrictions on the internet, attempts to silence TV stations like Republika, or censoring slogans on stadiums and in public places,” Nawrocki warned. “Is this what we dreamed of in the 21st century? To have our voices stifled because the government struggles to govern effectively? Are we willing to allow our freedom to be questioned and diminished?”

The crowd’s unified response – a resounding “No!” – demonstrated their support for Nawrocki’s stance against these perceived encroachments.

A Fight Against a “Bad System”

Nawrocki made it clear that his presidential campaign is a direct response to what he described as a political system closing in on itself. “I am running to ensure this system does not close in on itself because it is a bad system,” he stated, pledging to fight for the preservation of individual freedoms.
