Hurkacz encountered challenges in breaking O’Connell’s serve but remained composed in maintaining his own. The first set saw neither player earning a break point, leading to a tie-break, where Hurkacz’s expertise shone through as he clinched it 7-5 with two crucial points on O’Connell’s serve.
The intensity persisted in the second set, with Hurkacz finally seizing his first opportunity to break in the seventh game, securing a 4-3 lead. Maintaining his momentum, he closed out the match confidently, winning 6-4 and advancing to the quarterfinals.
This marks the second meeting between Hurkacz and O’Connell, with the Polish player claiming victory on both occasions.
