    Revitalization of Kampinos Forest Museum

The Kampinos Forest Museum reopens after an 8-year, 7 million PLN modernization, blending historic preservation with modern functionality.

After eight years of meticulous modernization, the Kampinos Forest Museum in Granica has reopened. Under the supervision of conservators, the renovation included a comprehensive restoration and adaptation of historic wooden forest architecture structures, listed in the Mazovian Voivodeship’s registry of immovable monuments. The project cost over 7 million PLN.

    Historic Significance

The Kampinos Forest Museum, originally established in the 1960s in an old cashier’s building, has a rich history. In 1964, the Jadwiga and Roman Kobendz Educational and Museum Center was established in the Granica skansen, marking the first such center in a Polish national park. The recent renovations involved extensive architectural repairs, the replacement and careful reconstruction of damaged elements, and the installation of modern, energy-efficient systems.

The surrounding area has been landscaped to reflect its original spatial layout, seamlessly integrating into the landscape. The former Kampinos Forest District building now hosts an exhibit highlighting the unique characteristics of the location. The old museum building has been transformed into educational spaces, including an audiovisual room and a technical workshop. A new building with restrooms, designed based on historical models, was also added.
