New Polish law enhances military capabilities and legal protections for soldiers in peacetime.
A new law designed to bolster the operations of soldiers and security personnel has been published in Poland’s Journal of Laws. Signed by President Andrzej Duda on the eve of Polish Armed Forces Day, the legislation introduces measures allowing military forces to carry out independent operations within the country in peacetime.
Key Provisions of the Law
The law outlines the conditions for employing force during peacetime and facilitates legal access for soldiers facing criminal proceedings. It specifies the protocols for the Military Gendarmerie when detaining soldiers and introduces the concept of military operations conducted domestically during peacetime.
Additionally, the law amends the Penal Code to exempt soldiers from liability under specific conditions when defending borders. Actions deemed necessary to repel direct threats to life or freedom can now be executed without fear of criminal repercussions.
President Duda emphasized the law’s role in enhancing the security of Polish borders and improving the safety of soldiers during its announcement.
