November 22, 2024, marks 28 years since Poland became a full-fledged member of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). Joining in 1996 as the 27th member, this step was a major milestone in Poland’s post-communist transition, symbolizing its commitment to free-market reforms and global economic integration. It came after significant efforts to modernize the economy, including the transformative “Balcerowicz Plan,” which introduced privatization, trade liberalization, and inflation stabilization.
Since joining, Poland has leveraged OECD membership to strengthen its economy, attract foreign investment, and adopt international standards in key areas like education, labour policy, and sustainable development. The country has experienced robust economic growth, positioning itself as one of Europe’s success stories, while actively contributing to global discussions on challenges such as digital transformation and climate change.
