It was supposed to be an exciting meeting and it was. Polish volleyball players in a dramatic match defeated current European champions, Serbia 3:2 (25:21, 23:25, 20:25, 25:20, 16:14). The most effective Polish player was Bartosz Kurek, but our midfielders and Kamil Semeniuk, who appeared on the court in the fourth set, also deserved praise. On Sunday, the Poles will fight with Greece for the third victory at the European Championships.
Even before the start of the tournament, experts predicted that the clash with Serbia will be the biggest challenge for the Poles and the most interesting match in the group stage of the European Championships. It seems that the same opinion had the fans, which appeared in the Tauron Arena much more than at the meeting Poland – Portugal. It was the first time since the start of the pandemic that the red and white played in front of so many fans.
The last part of the game went in the red and white’s favour at the beginning. Poles quickly got into the lead after excellent blocks and simple mistakes by the visitors (5:3). Unfortunately, later the White-Reds had a problem with efficiency, and Serbian mercilessly exploited that. The visitors led to a tie (13:13). The hero of the last action was Mateusz Bieniek. The centre first set a tight block, and then successfully finished the counter and made fans gathered in Tauron Arena go crazy with joy (16:14).
