Traditional Polish Delicacy
Ingredients:
- 2 apples
- 200 ml milk (slightly less than 1 cup)
- 1 egg
- 150 g (1 cup) all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon vanilla sugar
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- For frying: oil or clarified butter
Preparation:
- Start by sifting the flour into a large bowl, adding vanilla sugar, sugar, and baking soda. Mix these dry ingredients until evenly combined.
- Then, add milk and egg to the bowl of dry ingredients. Whisk everything together until you get a smooth batter without lumps.
- Peel the apples, cut them into quarters, and remove the cores. Then slice the quarters into thin slices. You can also grate the apples if you prefer a smoother apple mixture.
- Add the sliced apples to the batter and mix thoroughly to evenly distribute the fruit in the batter.
- Heat the frying fat in a skillet. You can use oil or clarified butter. Once the fat is hot, spoon about a tablespoon of batter onto the skillet and place 3 slices of apples on top of each fritter.
- Fry the fritters for about 1.5 minutes until they start to brown. Then, flip them over and fry for another 1.5 minutes on the other side.
- When the apple fritters are ready, remove them from the skillet and serve on a plate. Dust with powdered sugar or serve with jam.
