    A Russian oligarch found dead in his British villa

    Michael Watford (also known as Mikhail Tolstosheya) is a Ukrainian-born Russian oligarch who made his fortune from oil and gas after the collapse of the Soviet Union. The body of a 66-year-old businessman was found in his villa in Surrey.

    According to police, the death of 66-year-old Michael Watford, who made a fortune from oil and gas after the collapse of the Soviet Union, remains unresolved. The Ukrainian-born Russian oligarch was found dead in his residence in Surrey.

     

    Information about the businessman’s death drew the attention of the media and the public because of the focus on the oligarchs in Britain, who are considered to be members of Vladimir Putin’s inner circle after Russia invaded Ukraine.

     

    “We were called around midday on Monday 28 February following reports of the discovery of a man’s body at an address in Portnall Drive, Wentworth,” a spokesperson said.

     

    “An ambulance was called but the man, who was in his 60s, was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. His next of kin are aware and are being supported by specially trained officers. An investigation into the circumstances of the death is underway but it is not believed there are any suspicious circumstances at this time,” added.
