In a remarkable display of skill and team unity, Jastrzębski Węgiel claimed a decisive 3-0 victory against Aluron CMC Warta Zawiercie in the opening match of the PlusLiga volleyball finals. The match, hosted by Zawiercie, showcased Jastrzębski Węgiel’s strategic prowess and mental toughness.
Rafał Szymura, a key player for Jastrzębski Węgiel, modestly noted, “We managed to take a small step in the final, but we haven’t won anything yet.” His comments underscore the cautious optimism permeating the team despite the commanding lead.
The victory places Jastrzębski Węgiel in a comfortable position as they prepare for the potential final games this weekend, with the advantage of playing on their home turf. Having won the first match, they need only one more victory to clinch the championship, as the series is determined by the best of two wins.
Szymura expressed pride in his team’s performance, particularly praising their unity and resilience under pressure. “It’s always tough playing in Zawiercie’s arena, known for its heat and loud crowd. However, we stuck together, whether we were leading or trailing. Our perseverance and constant effort paid off,” he explained.
With one win already in the bag, Szymura is hopeful about the upcoming match in their home arena in Jastrzębie-Zdrój. “The next game will be a different battle, and we count on our fans’ support to push us through. We promise to give our best and play our finest volleyball,” he affirmed.
On the other side, Benjamin Toniutti, captain of Aluron CMC Warta Zawiercie, acknowledged the pressure from the hosts and admitted to some shortcomings in their play. “We need to prepare for a tough battle on Saturday. We managed to keep our composure despite some errors in the first set, but we need to be ready for a major fight against a top opponent,” Toniutti stated.
Mateusz Bieniek of Aluron CMC, reflecting on the loss, pointed out the nervousness evident on their side during critical moments, especially in the second and third sets. “We need to quickly forget this game because in three days, we have another match and we want to extend this competition. Hopefully, we will serve better, as today was certainly not our day in that aspect,” Bieniek analyzed.
Despite this being their first appearance in the PlusLiga finals, Zawiercie has already claimed the Polish Cup earlier this season. Bieniek remained optimistic: “We don’t have to prove anything, we are already victorious this season. We just need more joy on the court, and everything will be fine.”
