    Wingsuiters will try to break the World Record on Baltic Wingsuit Meet AWF 22 in Elbląg

    On Monday, August 22, the well known all around the world largest parachute and wingsuit event in Poland will be held at the Elbląg airport. More than 50 paratroopers from all over the world will perform various types of stunts in the air during Baltic Wingsuit Meet AWF 22 World Record. Moreover, it is planned to break the world record for Airplane Wingsuit Formation on Thursday.

    Polish canoeists are amazing! Mateusz Surwiło won another silver medal in Munich!

    Great news on Sunday morning from the European Championships in Munich! Mateusz Surwiło from Sports Rehabilitation Association START in Zielona Góra is now officially the 2022 Paracanoe Vice-champion! Surwiło won a silver medal in canoe sprint men's kayak single - KL3 200m!

    The smallest snake in Poland, “Miedzianka” the smooth snake is still extremely endangered and insufficiently protected

    The smooth snake (Coronella austriaca), also called "Miedzianka" because of his brownish colour, is the smallest snake that can be found in Poland. Unfortunately, Poles often mix this species up with common European vipers which is extremely widespread and venomous. Such mistakes lead to a dangerous situation regarding the population of the smooth snakes in our country. Despite 20 years of protection,"Miedzianka" is still one of the rarest reptiles in Poland, and the condition of its population is critical.

    Further medals for Poles in Munich! Five medals in a row at the European Canoe Championships!

    Karolina Naja and Anna Puławska became European champions in Munich. The Polish canoeists performed professionally in the final race in the K2 competition for 500 meters and left the Belgian and German women far behind. What is more, Julia Walczak and Sylwia Szczerbinska reached for the bronze in the C2 500m Olympic competition. Marta Walkiewicz won a bronze in Women's Kayak Single 200m and Oleksii Koliadych also won a bronze in Men’s Kayak Single 200m. And another medal was won by Jakub Stepun and Bartosz Grabowski. Polish men reached for the silver medal in Men’s Kayak Double 200m!

    The population of Poland is declining

    The total fertility rate (TFR) is a more direct measure of the level of fertility than the crude birth rate, since it refers to births per woman. This indicator shows the potential for population change in the country. A rate of two children per woman is considered the replacement rate for a population, resulting in relative stability in terms of total numbers. According to CIA The World Factbook, the fertility rate in Poland will be 1.4 children born/woman (2022 est.) which puts our country at the bottom of the ranking.

    Wrocław turns into a city of moving murals thanks to the Kinomural project that combines audio-visual art and the urban tissue. It realizes the site-specific idea by creating a gigantic open air gallery in a specific architectural context placed in the city of Wroclaw. The organizers transform side walls of buildings into enormous canvases for moving murals, ephemeral projections in various forms – from video art through sound performance and experimental films, to audiovisual installations. The works tackle various subject matters – some revolve around abstraction and focus on the form, other allude to poetry, social, philosophical, and existential issues.

    The Orthodox Feast of the Transfiguration is celebrated on the Holy Mount of Grabarka in eastern Poland on August 18 and 19. It is the most important ceremony in this church sanctuary, gathering thousands of believers every year. The Holy Mount of Grabarka is also called the Hill of Crosses. There are many examples of votive crosses of various sizes brought here by the faithful for different intentions. It is estimated that they now number over 10,000. They believe that the Savior's transfiguration is the source of inexhaustible transforming power that transforms all creation and all beings.

    Adrianna Sułek won the 800 m race, ahead of Switzerland Kalin in the women's heptathlon overall classification and won the silver medal at the European Championships! For our Polish athlete, it is a really valuable victory and award because she has been struggling with an injury even before the competitions in Munich started.

    Prof. Stefan Gierowski passed away

    Prof. Stefan Gierowski was a Polish painter and an avant garde artist of post-war Poland. For many years he was a professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw where he earned numerous distinctions. He passed away on August 14 at the age of 97.

    Polish volleyball team won with Iran at Hubert Wagner Memorial

    A good start of our representatives! Polish volleyball team won with Iran at Hubert Wagner Memorial in Poland on August 18. The memorial has been organised since 2003 and it is a friendly international volleyball tournament held every year. The official organizer of the event is Hubert Wagner Foundation that commemorates our fantastic player who was responsible for some of the greatest achievements in Polish volleyball.

    Wojciech Nowicki is a gold medalist of the European Championships in Munich!

    Another success in athletics provided by Polish representatives. Today, a Polish hammer thrower Wojciech Nowicki won a gold medal in the European Championship in Munich. He said: "The finals were like casual training for me". The second representative of Poland, Paweł Fajdek took fourth place.

    Iga Świątek lost the 3rd round of the WTA hard-court tournament in Cincinnati against Madison Keys

    World No.1 Iga Świątek lost to the American Madison Keys and has been eliminated in the 1/8 finals of the WTA hard-court tournament in Cincinnati. 2019 Champion American Madison Keys records her first-ever victory over Świątek taking out 6-3, 6-4 on home soil.

    83rd anniversary of Wojciech Korfanty's death

    Wojciech Korfanty was a political leader who played a major role in the national reawakening of the Poles of Upper Silesia and who led their struggle for independence from Germany. The dictator of the Third Silesian Uprising became a co-creator of the rebirth of the Republic of Poland. He led his life with the way that guided him to a democratic attitude based on Christian universalism thought.

    Shelter for Homeless Animals in Bytom will open a special unit for exotic pets

    In September, an asylum for exotic pets will be opened in Shelter for Homeless Animals in Bytom, Silesian Voivodeship. The Silesian facility will take care of smuggled birds, reptiles, and amphibians abandoned by their owners who were overwhelmed by the demanding pet care or escaped and lost pets. Director of the shelter, Anna Kornas: "The listed species for which we have obtained a permit include, among others, parrots, pythons, boas, turtles, iguanas, geckos, chameleons, and various species of arboreal animals".

    A Polish player from Krotoszyński Province won PLN 213 million in the Eurojackpot. The news was provided by the President of the Management Board of Totalizator Sportowy, Olgierd Cieślik. This is the highest win in random bets in Poland.

    Has the hotel market in Poland recovered?

    Between 2019 and 2021, the total number of overnight stays in Polish hotel rooms increased by almost 6,2 percent. However, according to the RevPAR (Revenue per Available Room) index, hotels generated 43 percent less revenue per room than before the pandemic. According to experts, because of the pandemic, the hotel market has had hard years behind. Now, Polish hoteliers face similar problems caused by the war in Ukraine.

    Pride of Poland 2022 – the Polish mare Esmeraldia achieved the highest price

    This year’s edition of Pride of Poland and Summer Sale is over. The buyers from all over the world had a unique opportunity to find the horse of their dreams among mares and stallions offered for sale. Eventually, 14 selected purebred Arabian horses, including national and international show stars, proven broodmares, and valuable stallions were sold. The total amount of EUR 1.6 million was collected, and the highest price of EUR 400 thousand at the auction was achieved by the Polish mare Esmeraldia from the stud in Michałów.
