A cyclist staring at his phone hit the barrier at the entrance to the Radio Krakow car park. The man was bruised, but – as you can see on the video of the incident – got up on his own, restored the barrier to its original position and rode away.
The accident was reported on Monday by Radio Krakow, which also published a video of the incident.
The video shows the speeding cyclist holding the steering wheel in his left hand and a phone in his right, hitting the barrier and almost flying through it. After the fall, the man gets up, picks up the phone, returns the barrier to its original position and drives off.
Under the Road Traffic Act, the driver of a vehicle, including a bicycle, must not use the telephone while holding the handset. The rule applies not only to talking on the phone but also to reading text messages and using social media. The offence is punishable by a fine of up to PLN 500.
The ban does not apply to taking the phone in your hand once to answer or end a call, provided that the conversation is carried out using a hands-free set.
