Polish canoeists won 7 medals during ICF Canoe-Kayak Sprint 2022 in Halifax, Canada. Both Polish men and women are coming back home with medals! The sports meeting in Canada was a great success for our representatives! Congratulations!

Robert Lewandowski scored his first goal for Barcelona!

Robert Lewandowski scored his first goal for Barcelona yesterday! It was his first goal for the club as a Barcelona player. Lewandowski scored a point in the 3rd minute of a friendly match against Pumas UNAM at the Camp Nou stadium. He ran into the penalty area, passed goalkeeper Julio Gonzalez and hit the ball from a sharp angle. He also made two assists. Eventually, Barcelona won 6-0 (4-0) in the Joan Gamper Trophy and Lewandowski was the MVP!

TAURON SEC final in Güstrow, Germany – Polish speedway rider Janusz Kołodziej was first!

It was a great race for the Polish representatives! Janusz Kołodziej won the second round of the TAURON Speedway Euro Championship 2022 cycle in Güstrow, Germany. Patryk Dudek took 2nd place on the podium and Daniel Bewley was the 3rd.

Bielsko-Biała Days – get to know Polish craftsmanship and the Banialuka Puppet Theater better

The beginnings of Polish craftsmanship date back to the early Polish Piast (X century) times. It was then that in Poland, groups of people professionally specialized in the production of specific products began to emerge. Blacksmithing and metallurgy developed the earliest. Later, such professions as cooperage, pottery, baking, brewing, tanning, shoemaking, and tailoring emerged too. On August 27, during the Bielsko-Biała Days, a recreational event in cooperation with the Bielsko-Biała Chamber of Crafts will take place. It will introduce craftsmanship, craft guilds, and historical reconstructions, such as awarding the title of a shoemaker's guild master. On the next day, you can see the famous Banialuka Puppet Theater.

Today is the 80th anniversary of Janusz Korczak's death

Today is the 80th anniversary of Janusz Korczak's death. On August 6, 1942, the Nazi German occupiers took Janusz Korczak, all co-workers and two hundred pupils out of the Orphans' Home to their last path. Remba: "These were the first Jewish ranks to go to death with dignity." All of them were transported in covered, crowded carriages with windows barred with barbwire to the extermination camp in Treblinka, near Małkinia.

Poles won 4 medals in International Mathematical Linguistics Olympiad

The International Linguistics Olympiad (IOL) is one of 13 International Science Olympiads for secondary school students, and has been held annually since 2003. Each year, teams of young linguists from around the world gather and test their minds against the world’s toughest puzzles in language and linguistics. Poland was represented by 2 teams and won 4 medals! Young Polish secondary school students brought home two silver and two bronze medals.

Pol’and’Rock Festival 2022 is on!

The participants of the event included: SAS ( Special Air Service) police and military teams from Australia, SBS (Special Boat Service) from Great Britain, KSK and GSG9 Special Forces from Germany, K-Commando from Estonia, Lynx Commando from Slovakia and more.

TVP Journalist Iryna Slaunikava has been sentenced to 5 years in a penal colony in Belarus

Today, the Homiel regional court in Belarus pronounced the verdict on TVP journalist Iryna Slaunikava who was arrested together with her husband at the airport in Minsk on October 30, 2021. She was associated with TVP for 15 years but previously she worked for Belsat TV station. Slaunikava and her husband were originally sentenced to 15 days in jail for "posting 'extremist content' on Facebook." On August 3, Slaunikava has been sentenced to 5 years in a penal colony in Belarus.

Top pole vaulters from 8 countries will perform in the jubilee 35th edition of "A pole on the pier" (Polish: "Tyczka na molo") in Sopot. The competition will take place at Skwer Kuracyjny between August 3 and August 4. It will be divided into two days because both men and women will have a separate day prepared especially for their categories. Participation in the Sopot meeting is confirmed, among others, by Piotr Lisek, the three-time medalist of the World Championships.

Poland's unemployment rate at 2.7% in June – the 2nd lowest unemployment rate in the EU

According to the official information reported on Monday by Eurostat, EU’s statistical office, Poland's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate remained unchanged at 2.7% in June 2022 from the previous month. While the unemployment rate in the whole European Union reached 6%, Poland recorded the 2nd lowest unemployment rate in the EU.

The first Ukrainian grain ship left Odesa Sea Port since the Russian Aggression has started

On this Monday morning, the first Ukrainian grain ship left Odesa Sea Port. It could be a milestone in the food crisis since the Russian Aggression has started. Thanks to negotiations on establishing grain transport corridors through the Black Sea between the UN, the USA and Turkey, the export is no longer stopped. The ship is headed for Lebanon, ready to export grain to countries in need. Also, the USA continues engaging with partners to provide safe passage for grain.

Over 800 volunteers took the military oath in Poland today

Today, on July 31, 2022, Mariusz Błaszczak, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of National Defense, took part in the ceremonial military oath of 89 soldiers of the 19th Self-Propelled Artillery Squadron. In total, 800 volunteers who had just completed a 28-day basic training swore the military oath across Poland.
