    Munich 2022 WSPS World Cup – Emilia Babska won a gold medal in shooting!

    Emilia Babska from Warsaw took up shooting in 2016 at age 16. Today, we can congratulate her on winning a gold medal in shooting at World Cup in Munich, Germany! She took first place in the R2 - Women's 10m Air Rifle Standing SH1 group with a total of 248.0 and defeated the winners of the last Paralympic Games in Tokyo!

    A new method of restoring colour of old paintings developed by the UW's Chemists in collaboration with the National Museum in Warsaw

    Chemists from the University of Warsaw in cooperation with the National Museum in Warsaw have developed a new method of restoring colours on canvas. It allows the removal of wax-resin mass from the canvases that comes from the past conservation works. This procedure allows the paintings to be restored to their original colours by using a special organogel.

    The Duchess of York, Sarah Margaret Ferguson visited Będzin and Czeladź

    On Wednesday, July 13, the Duchess of York Sarah Ferguson visited children from Ukraine in Będzin and Czeladź. She wanted to see cities where Ukrainians found shelter from the conflagration of war. It was a great experience and the Duchess had the opportunity to talk with the warmhearted people of Poland. It was her third visit in Poland since war with Russia first broke out in March in the Ukraine. On February 24, the Duchess's charity, Sarah's Trust, sent three lorry loads of supplies to Poland after Moscow ordered its troops into Ukraine. DOY continues with her support of Ukrainians in need and organizes the delivery of humanitarian aid to their communities.

    A nurse from the Battalion Zośka, Anna Jakubowska, alias 'Paulinka' passed away

    A nurse from the Battalion Zośka, Anna Jakubowska, alias 'Paulinka' passed away aged 95. She was a Polish World War II combatant, community activist, and a participant of the Warsaw Uprising. During World War II, she was an active partisan in the Polish underground resistance movement. First, in the underground PET organization, and later as a nurse and liaison officer in groups later transformed into the Battalion Zośka of the Home Army.

    A woman was saved from being raped on holidays – outstanding performance of Polish National Police

    This year, since July 1, Polish policemen are on duty on the Croatian Adriatic coast and in Bulgarian Black Sea resorts to help the citizens in this area. Fortunately, early in the morning, Staff Sergeant Piotr Filar was doing his daily workout, when he saw a young women in danger. On daily basis, he works at the Provincial Police Headquarters in Cracow but currently he was delegated to serve in the Zadar region, Croatia. However, he was off duty when he saved a 20-year-old woman from Norway. She was a victim of an attempted rape and sexual assault.

    The idea of creating an international movement for protecting heritage emerged after World War I. The 1972 Convention concerning the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage developed from the merging of two separate movements: the first focusing on the preservation of cultural sites, and the other dealing with the conservation of nature. On July 13, 2006 the Centennial Hall was registered on this prestigious site. It is located in Wrocław, a city in southwestern Poland and the largest city in the historical region of Silesia.

    Yesterday, Modern Pentathlon 2022 European U17 & U19 Youth Championships has started in Cracow. Thanks to good starts and high places in the individual qualification, Poland won a silver medal in the teams classification. A gold medal belongs to France, whereas Hungarians are in third place.

    The 80th anniversary of Bruno Schulz's tragic death

    Bruno Schulz was a Polish Jewish writer, fine artist, literary critic and art teacher. He is regarded as one of the great Polish-language prose stylists of the 20th century. Unfortunately, several of Schulz's works were lost in the Holocaust and his fate was equally tragic. In 1942, when he was walking back home toward Drohobycz Ghetto with a loaf of bread, he was shot and killed by a German Nazi, a Gestapo officer.

    Our Polish scullers - Dominik Czaja, Mateusz Biskup, Miroslaw Zietarski, and Fabian Baranski won a gold medal in Men’s Quadruple Sculls in World Rowing Cup III in Switzerland.

    The giant heart reached Łódź

    A giant heart made of polished sheet metal by Sino Sculpture Group in Tianjin, Northern China, is a unique sculpture that will soon be placed on the WOŚP Square in Łódź. The sculpture is so large and unusual that its transport to Poland was a real challenge.

    During the concert of a British rock band Coldplay in Warsaw at PGE Narodowy on July 8, 2022, the musicians performed the famous Polish song 'Dream about Warsaw' by Czesław Niemen. Also, as a part of the "Music of The Spheres World Tour", the band performed their best-known songs such as 'Higher Power' and 'Paradise'. The lead vocalist, pianist, rhythm guitarist and co-founder of the band, Chris Martin smoothly connected the lyrics of the song 'Sparks' and the iconic Polish song 'Dream about Warsaw'.

    IWAS Wheelchair Fencing World Cup 2022 'Kiliński's Saber' has been officially organised and put in the World Cup calendar since 2001. These are twenty years of great history and touching memories, spectacular victories and surprising decisions, celebrated together in an atmosphere of friendship, mutual respect and admiration for the craftsmanship and effort of disabled masters of fencing. This year, the winner of the competitions is our Polish fencer Kinga Dróżdż! But there are more victories of Poland and Castro, Dąbrowski and Pluta went home with medals!

    A 16-year-old student made a prosthetic arm for a little girl so that she could ride a bicycle

    This week, a 16-year-old student Jakub Polański has made and handed over an extensive 3D-printed arm prosthesis for a 5-year-old girl. Thanks to him, the little girl will be able to live a normal life and even ride a bike!

    District Prosecutor's Office in Słupsk accused 4 women of child abuse in one of the non-public preschools

    District Prosecutor's Office in Słupsk accused 4 women of physical and mental child abuse in the "Skrzaty" non-public preschool. According to Spokesman District Prosecutor's Office Paweł Wnuk, the findings of the investigation show that the crimes took place from February to April 2019 and they were committed against a total of 11 children with disabilities or needing additional care aged 3 and 4 years old.
