    Laboratories of the Future

    Laboratories of the Future is an initiative of the Ministry of Education and Science and the GovTech Center at the Chancellery of the Prime Minister aimed at supporting elementary schools in purchasing equipment for laboratories of STEAM subjects (science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics). Under this initiative schools will receive teaching aids, for which the government has allocated over one billion PLN. 99% of primary schools were equipped with modern educational and technological equipment

    Traditional harvest wreaths in the courtyard of the Belweder Palace, Warsaw

    For the first time in history, the Belweder courtyard was decorated with intricately composed, traditional harvest wreaths. The masterpieces were prepared by groups from 14 Polish provinces to compete for the award of the President of the Republic of Poland on the eve of the main Harvest Festival celebrations. The main event is planned for today, September 11 at 01:00 p.m.

    Today is the death anniversary of Captain Władysław Raginis

    Captain Władysław Raginis was a Polish military commander during the Polish Defensive War of 1939 of a small force holding the Polish fortified defense positions against a vastly larger invasion during the Battle of Wizna. Because the positions were held at great cost for three days before being annihilated with few survivors, Wizna is referred to as the Polish Thermopylae and Captain Raginis as a modern Leonidas.

    Poland will host EuroSkills 2023

    EuroSkills Gdansk 2023 is scheduled to take place between 5-9 September 2023 at AMBEREXPO Gdańsk. It is the first such large international event transferred to Poland in connection with Russia's aggression against Ukraine. EuroSkills is an international competition that has so far been held 7 times, and next year Poland will host it for the first time. Poland expects to welcome 600 skilled young professionals from 31 countries to the event to participate in competitions and host demonstration events in 45-50 different skills. Around 100,000 visitors from across Poland and abroad are expected to attend.

    International Mines Rescue Competition – KGHM Polska Miedz SA left for the USA

    The team of KGHM Polska Miedz SA mine rescuers has just left for the USA, where they will take part in the International Mines Rescue Competition. In previous years, KGHM rescuers won, among others, bronze and gold medals. This year's International Mines Rescue Competition is set for September 9-16, 2022.

    34th International Conference Europe of the Carpathian Mountains in Poland – 3rd day

    In 2011, the International Conference “Europe of the Carpathians” became part of the Economic Forum in Krynica Zdrój. It was then that the Carpathian Memorandum was adopted – the first document stressing the need to develop a Carpathian Strategy, which would gain not only a local and interstate dimension, but also a European one. On August 6, the event of three days lasting deliberation with the participation of politicians, experts and scientists from Central and Eastern Europe started. The participants have focused on forms of cooperation in the region.

    “Love will forgive you everything” – sang Maria Anna Pietruszyńska, better known under her stage name Hanka Ordonówna. She began her acting career in the year Poland regained independence. She performed in theater, cabaret and film. She was not only a talented actress and singer, but also a charismatic woman who willingly – against the prevailing fashion – donned pants and low-cut dresses. Also, famous poets wrote texts for her, for example, Julian Tuwim, Marian Hemar, Konstanty Ildefons Gałczyński, or Jan Lechoń.

    Competition of over 200 horses and riders from all over Europe – Warsaw Jumping at Służewiec Racecourse

    From this Thursday until Sunday, the Służewiec Racecourse is a host of the competition of over 200 horses and riders from all over Europe. The event in Służewiec includes races, shows, trade fairs and attractions for the whole family. As part of Warsaw Jumping international competitions it attracts attention of not only the equestrian world, but also business, culture and politics. The high profile of the event and the attractive prize pool of more than PLN 1,900,000, guarantee the attendance of key European show jumping stars.

    The Polish Nobel Laureates series: Leonid Hurwicz

    Leonid Hurwicz was a Polish-American economist and mathematician, known for his work in game theory and mechanism design. He started working on mechanism design theory in the 1960s. The theory allows us to distinguish situations in which markets work well from those in which they do not. It has helped economists identify efficient trading mechanisms, regulation schemes and voting procedures. He shared the 2007 Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences (with Eric Maskin and Roger Myerson) for having laid the foundations of mechanism design theory. Hurwicz was one of the oldest Nobel Laureates, having received the prize at the age of 90.

    The Polish Nobel Laureates series: Wisława Szymborska

    Wisława Szymborska was a Polish poet, essayist, translator, and recipient of the 1996 Nobel Prize in Literature. She was born in Prowent (now part of Kórnik), about 25 kilometers (16 mi) southeast of the city of Poznań. Then, she lived in Kraków until the end of her life. In 1945, she began studying Polish literature before switching to sociology at Jagiellonian University. There, she became involved in the local writing scene and met Czesław Miłosz. Szymborska said once that Miłosz was one of the first people to congratulate her on the Nobel Prize in October 1996. The Nobel Prize in Literature 1996 was awarded to Wislawa Szymborska "for poetry that with ironic precision allows the historical and biological context to come to light in fragments of human reality".

    The Polish Nobel Laureates series: Jerzy Charpak

    Jerzy Charpak, also known as Georges Charpak, was a Polish-born French physicist, who was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics for his invention and development of particle detectors, in particular the multiwire proportional chamber in 1992. Charpak's family moved from Poland to Paris when he was seven years old, beginning his study of mathematics in 1941 at the Lycée Saint Louis. The actor and film director André Charpak was his younger brother.

    The Polish Nobel Laureates series: Roald Hoffmann

    Roald Hoffmann is a Polish-American who was born into a Jewish family in Złoczów, Poland (now Ukraine). He is also a theoretical chemist who won the 1981 Nobel Prize in Chemistry. He has also published plays and poetry since 1970s. Also, he is the Frank H. T. Rhodes Professor of Humane Letters, Emeritus, at Cornell University, in Ithaca, New York.

    The Polish Nobel Laureates series: Czesław Miłosz

    Czesław Miłosz was a Polish-American poet, prose writer, translator, and diplomat. Regarded as one of the great poets of the 20th century, he won the 1980 Nobel Prize in Literature. The Nobel Prize committee distinguished Miłosz as someone "who with uncompromising clear-sightedness voices man's exposed condition in a world of severe conflicts". Miłosz's role as a translator and popularizer of Polish poetry cannot be overestimated. In his Nobel lecture, Miłosz described his view of the role of the poet and lamented the tragedies of the 20th century.

    The Polish Nobel Laureates series: Isaac Bashevis Singer

    Isaac Bashevis Singer was a Polish-born American Jewish writer who wrote and published first in Yiddish and later translated himself into English with the help of editors and collaborators. The Nobel Prize in Literature 1978 was awarded to him "for his impassioned narrative art which, with roots in a Polish-Jewish cultural tradition, brings universal human conditions to life".

    The Polish Nobel Laureates series: Menachem Begin

    Menachem Begin, known also as Mieczysław Biegun, was an Israeli politician, founder of Likud and the sixth Prime Minister of Israel. He grew up in Poland and studied at the University of Warsaw. He received the Nobel Prize in 1978 "for the Camp David Agreement, which brought about a negotiated peace between Egypt and Israel".

    The Polish Nobel Laureates series: Andrzej Schally

    Andrzej Wiktor Schally, also known as Andrew W. Schally, was born on November 20, 1926, in Wilno, Poland. During World War II, Schally had to leave Poland and live among the Jewish-Polish Community in Romania. In 1945, he moved via Italy and France to England and Scotland. He was awarded an honorary doctorate by nearly 20 universities, incl. Jagiellonian University. In 2021, he was awarded the Commander's Cross of the Order of Merit of the Republic of Poland.
